Newcastle United deal for striker collapses
Newcastle United’s deal for Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga has collapsed, according to the player’s agent.
Maiga was set to complete a £6m switch from French football this January but reports claim that Newcastle are unhappy with the player’s physical condition.
Karim Aklil, Maiga’s agent, said: “I am disappointed at this turn of events. Modibo is in perfect physical condition, which was confirmed by one of the leading experts in the field. I am quite surprised.”
Newcastle have taken gambles on the fitness of Demba Ba and Sylvain Marveaux in the recent past with both players failing medicals at Stoke City and Liverpool respectively before joining the Toon.
