Liverpool deal for Aston Villa’s Darren Bent is “done”

By on January 5, 2012 - 138 views

Liverpool have sealed a deal to sign Aston Villa striker Darren Bent, according to a Mirror journalist.

The England international, 27, emerged as a surprise target for Liverpool late last month and it appears that a move has already been finalised.

Speaking on Twitter, David Anderson said: “An Anfield source says Darren Bent’s move to Liverpool is done.”

Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish had previously ruled out a potential switch for Bent in the January window with the frontman only joining the club 12 months ago from Sunderland for £18m.

If that’s true then he’ll feel right at home amongst the equally average buys like Adam, Henderson, Downing and Carroll. Liverpool must be cornering the market in buying such players at massive cost. There are far better players out there than Bent. And with a name like that I don’t see thousands wanting his name on their replica shirts.

Thanx dear u understand what real football is all abt, before we can go back on top of our standard, we should forget all those english average players and look forward for the standard we hav been known for in the past. Seriously what if we qualify for champions league do u think these player really knw what is all about, kenny is digging our grave.

@ bootle bob how can you say he’d be an average buy in nearly every prem season he’s

scored on average every other game 25 goals in a season for sunderland aint that average.

    ^^^^

Comments 1, 2 and 3 totally irrelevant because Darren Bent will not leave Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

Confirmed frequently over the last couple of months by the Manager, the Chief Executive, the Chairman and any half decent journalist who covers Aston Villa.

Not to mention the fact that McLeish laughed it off. Half an hour ago.

But you keep believing whatever you like. February 1st you can admit you all fell for the rumour mill trick.

i no they said that but look at the torres case of last year he thought he couldnt score because of a lack of good service same as what bents saying and at the end of the day what makes the contract between bent and villa so water tight compared to torres’s , if a player wants the move it’ll happen weather its jan or summer, it’s just whether he wants to come to liverpool

In fairness, this story is true (well the bit about the Anfield source anyway), Mark Lawrence has said the deal was done… To be honest if Liverpool have got him its good news but all depends if we have him or not… Didn’t Aston Villa also say in the summer that the famous picture of Downing and Carroll holding the Liverpool scarf was a “fake”?

Dirk Kuyt will go and part fund this deal. To be honest, I think Dirk has had his day now and would be a good time to move on!

@TJ PMSL !!!! Your really trying to convince yourself that bent is leaving Aston Villa. Or your trying to sound like it’s your say so on the final decision if he leaves or not.
The truth be told …….. No-one outside the transfer dealing’s of both clubs knows the score.
I personally am mixed in feelings to have him at LFC . We need a goal scorer but like some are pointing out , will he fit in? Will the style of play suit him?
If we get him then I will give him my full support. If we don’t then LFC WILL sign a striker in this transfer window.

He is a goalscorer and very good finisher I I’ve always admired him from his Ipswich days and if he joined us he’d be our only natural goalscorer.

im sure alex mcleish knows a bit more than most of us into whether bent wants away or not, him laughing off the rumour surely makes me feel scared that bent is gonna leave. the fact of the matter is bent is the best goalscorer england have got and people saying he is merely average is just ridiculous, this season its the worst ive ever seen him play bar none and he still goes and scores 6 goals in like 14 odd games he’s played or something, unreal striker who will never stop scoring, just give it a month and he will be banging them in for fun again

isnt that exactly what liverpool did before torres left??

    • Chuckyred

      January 6, 2012 at 1:26 am

What did we do before Torres left? I hope you don’t mean score because look at that 6 months Torres was fit playing for Hodgson, it was like we had ten men. Bent would be a good signing, maybe even great. Great consistent strike record.

    January 6, 2012 at 12:25 am

i think bents the kind of player that can fit into any prem side he’s played well for enough of them.

  16. mr D H Herbert

    January 6, 2012 at 1:08 am

With all the chances we create! Bent would surely be prem top scorer! Plus his england place for the euros would be better off! Let’s look at facts: liverpool need a goal scorer, villa and mcleish need to generate money to improve squad! Bent and mclish don’t see eye 2 eye! Liverpool have spent biG on english players and commolli was behind bent joining spurs! Doesn’t take a genius to put 2 and 2 together

sign him with the 3rd best strike record in the prem over the last 5 seasons only drogba and rooney have scored more. a goal every 2.5 games this man loves the back of the net and if we sign him ill do a back flip with delight

If this report is true all the hullabloo over the Evra/Suarez issue has not forced Liverpool FC to go for Broke as they have just got Bent instead.

Would have preferred Dempsey but now is the time for loyal Reds supporters to stick together. Don’t confuse the FA with the facts – their minds have long since been made up. Il soit qui maly pense!

Why is that your manager is looking at Keane and Drogba? That seems well calculated to me. Loan of Kean till Drogba returns from CAN then Drogba takes on from there.

Another Robbie Keane for Liverpool. Good luck. Me Ashfah dont love Bent let alone “Kunkit” with him.

I really hope not. I’m fed up with KK buying average British players. We wil never finish top4 if keep buying players like Caroll, Adam Hendreson Downing and now Bent. God help us. YNWA

why LFC don’t keep an eye on Twente FC’s Luuk de Jong ?

  30. Bruce SA Red

    January 6, 2012 at 11:13 am

Benkim I fully agree with you, the lack of transparency within LFC means we have no idea who has bought these average players, on the one hand they say they want to be back in the Champions League and then they go and buy a lot of mid table players, would Barcelona be where they are if Andy C, Downing, Adam, Henderson and Bent (perhaps) were playing for them? i shudder to think what crap Dalglish and Comolli are going to buy next….for heavens sake AIM HIGHER AND BETTER…..bloody hell

  31. Robert Malin

    January 6, 2012 at 11:29 am

Bent was very good at spurs but it was quite surprising when he was often left out on bench even after being their most consistent goalscorer at that time. Maybe Harry Rednapp knows something abt Bent that we don’t! Or perhaps Bent is more individual than team player.

Secondly, last year when given chance to play for england, Bent had missed sitters; I dnt remember the games but i do remember he had missed sitters and was very disappointing for england. I have a doubt that Bent will do well for LFC. The ball is on Comolli and KD’s court now.

  32. Mckay

    January 6, 2012 at 12:19 pm

Oh no! Not again, i’m really tired of seeing gossips of english players like this. I’ll prefer sessognon to bent.

If bent is coming anyway then carrol should be loaned to watford/oldham to gain more experience. There are players that are far better than this British players that are not even considered, if comolli needs a better advice then i’ll advice im to go for Mauro Zarate.

The one thing Liverpool do not have. A Striker who can score week in week out. And Darren Bent can weather you like him or loath him!

    January 6, 2012 at 3:24 pm

once he joins us he will be shite, just like most players we get that seem good elsewhere, but soon as they put the red top on there crap, very disapointed with the season so far, our signing have been a bad let down, im sick of hearing how they need to settle in, no they dont if you can play footie, you dont need no time, suarez never and he’s in a foreign country. I wonder when we will have another 100m to spend, people talk about the net spend, but its still over 100m spent on new players no matter how u look at it

  38. Damilola Awolola

    January 6, 2012 at 8:32 pm

I hope liverpool will not experience another trophyless season due to her system of signing player, why english player all the time, can’t dalglish & comolli look outside for better player. To sign bent isn’t the problem, but is he gonna be the kind of player liverpood need, as per me, we needed regular goal scorer like aguero, persey etc. So therefore, dalglish should think twice, we don’t need mid table player in this club. Liverpool is known with a great & awesome history, so therefore, we need great players cos I want to see liverpool in top four & win either calling or FA cup. “Never walk alone”

Comolli should be sacked asap! For heavens sake plz stop buying more british talent! Go for De jong or Zarate! Or if LFC are really to finish in the top 4, then KK and commolli better go for KAKA! Make a bid of like pounds 35 million for him if we really are ambitious to challenge the likes of City and Tottenham! Otherwise I’m afraid we might have another Europe less season next time out

I believe daglish has a big problem,i don’ think he want’s to take us to the champions league, fans are complaning of the lack of quality of player he bought last summer and here he goes again making the same silly mistake on another Englishman,i don’t see bent doing the job we expect from him, fuck! british my foot!

    January 23, 2012 at 7:15 pm
