La Liga News… Almunia targeted by Atletico Madrid
Out-of-favour goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is set to be on his way out of Arsenal with Atletico Madrid and Malaga both interested.
Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that the 33-year-old could struggle to force his way back into the side after recent injuries and a move to Spain could be on the cards. “There has been interest from Spain, yes,” said Wenger.
“It’s difficult to give a percentage over whether he’ll stay or not. It’s never easy [to go from captain and first choice to third choice], but that’s part of our job.”
The Spaniard has fallen behind fellow stoppers Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny in the tussle for the number one jersey at the Emirates.
