Form of their lives – Nicolas Anelka

Back in February 1997, Arsene Wenger bought 17-year-old Nicolas Anelka from PSG for a measly fee of £500,000 – marking one of the signings of the decade.
Chances in the first team were few and far between with the likes of Bergkamp and Ian Wright spearheading the front line, but when Wright faced a long-term layoff, Anelka took his chance to shine.
‘Le Sulk’ lead Arsenal to a league and cup double – contributing nine goals in 40 matches – but it was his final season with the London club that would announce him on the European scene.
Anelka finished the top Premier League goalscorer in 1998/99 with an astonishing 17 goals in just 35 league games, and just after his 20th birthday, secured a £22.3m move to Real Madrid.
Gunner’s fans will find it hard to forget his amazing track record against Manchester United and the silverware he helped put in the trophy cabinet during his short time in North London.
