Liverpool, Manchester United alerted to Russian midfielder
Russia captain and Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Igor Denisov could be set for a switch to the Premier League with Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool amongst those interested, according to the Mail Online.
The news comes after the 28-year-old controversially attacked new high profile signings Hulk and Axel Witsel, publically voicing his discontent at their superior wage salaries following their combined transfer for some £72m earlier this month.
As a result, the midfielder of 32 Russia caps has been forced to train with the reserves after speaking out of line and this has alerted the overtures of some of England’s top clubs.
Denisov, backed in his views by team mate Alexander Kerzhakov stated angrily to Russian newspaper Sport-Express: “I could understand it if we signed Messi or Iniesta, who are worth any price.
“Yes, we bought good players who clearly will help Zenit. But they are so much better than others to earn a salary three times better?”
Denisov, who is yet to play his football anywhere else outside the Petrovsky Stadium having made his debut way back in 2002, is likely to talk himself out of the club, given any more mutterings and could find himself following in the footsteps of Andrey Arshavin to the Premier League in January.
