Everton seal signature of former Aston Villa midfielder
Everton have confirmed the signing of former Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger on a short-term contract, announced on the club website.
The 30-year-old German international put pen-to-paper this morning on a deal that will keep him at Everton until January 2013.
Hitzlsperger had his best spell as a player at Aston Villa where he was integral part of the set-up during his time. After leaving the club, he had spells at Stuggart and Lazio before retuning to the Premier League with West Ham in 2010.
However, a long term injury meant he could do little to prevent the club from succumbing to relegation. In 2011, he joined Wolfsburg on a three-year deal but made only six appearances in the 2011-12 season at the end of which his contract with the German club was terminated.
Hitzlsperger has been training with Everton for a number of weeks in a bid to prove his fitness after recovering from a long term injury. He featured as one of the over aged players in a Under-21 Premier League game for the club.
With 52 international caps, the German will add experience and cover to a vibrant Everton squad put together by David Moyes.
