Liverpool ready to swoop for Schalke starlet
Liverpool are the unnamed English club interested in signing Schalke’s Lewis Holtby, according to Sky Sports.
The 22-year-old, who was born in England but has chosen to represent Germany at international level, recently played for Schalke in their 2-0 Champions League success over Arsenal and his form in the Bundesliga is said to have alerted Liverpool.
Holtby’s agent Markus Noack has admitted that there is a potential offer on the table for his client from a Premier League club.
“We are talking with Schalke about a possible extension for another three years,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.
“Talks are going well at the moment but the situation has definitely changed in the last period because several offers from Spain and England came in.”
He added: “Lewis is very good at Schalke but above all there is an English club which has made a very interesting proposal.”
Holtby is rumoured to have supported Everton as a boy but could relish the chance to play for Liverpool in England.
