Manchester City identify Real Betis star as transfer target
New Manchester City technical director Txiki Begiristain has outlined Real Betis attacker Benat as a January transfer target, according to Goal.
The former Barcelona employee took the position with the Premier League club earlier this week and has been put in charge of identifying the side’s transfer targets.
He is believed to be a big fan of the playmaker, who could be available for a reasonable price this winter.
Contact discussions between the player and his current team have reportedly broken down, leaving the door open for the Citizens to make an official bid.
His current deal runs until 2014 and the Spaniards may be keen to cash in while his value is still relatively high, rather than risk waiting and allowing his stock to drop.
Liverpool and Arsenal have been previously linked with the star but City hold the upper hand in negotiations having struck a deal with the club to allow Roque Sana Cruz to spend last season on loan in Seville.
