Suarez Linked with Impossible move to Manchester City
National newspaper the Daily Express has revealed that Manchester City are preparing to make a bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez in January with Roberto Mancini reported to be a keen fan of the Uruguayan international.
Suarez is currently the only fit striker at Liverpool and the best attacking player they have at their disposal.
The speculation over the future of Edin Dzeko has prompted the reports but it is extremely difficult to see Suarez leaving Liverpool as Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers has already said he is looking to bring more attacking players in to build a side around his start striker.
In light of this it would take some substantial bid on the part of Manchester City to prise Suarez away form Liverpool, the sort of figure that Real Madrid paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo springs to mind. This is probably something that Liverpool and Liverpool fans are going to have to endure over the coming weeks, months and seasons because the best strikers are always linked with moves to other rival clubs.
You also have to add to the pot that circumstances could change at Manchester City which will prevent any bids for any top stars from going through. While Dzeko is at the club and scoring goals, it would unjustifiable for Mancini or for City to push him through the exit door in such good form.
Such an action would prompt questions from the owners and fans at Manchester City as they would be swapping a tall, aggressive and physical striker for a similar player to Carlos Tevez, who they already own.
There is also no guarantee that Mancini will be the manager of City by the end of the season which would probably be one of the guarantees that Suarez would ask for if an impossible deal was to come off. City are hanging by a thread as far as Europe is concerned and they look off the pace compared with Manchester United in the Premier League despite not having lost a match in the league this season.
Suarez is such an integral part of Liverpool and what Brendan Rodgers is trying to achieve that even if City forked out £150 million plus players, Liverpool would probably turn it down unless the American owners of the club got involved. He is that important to Liverpool as there is arguably no better striker when it comes to skill, agility and effectiveness in and around the penalty area.
It’s also important to look at the fact that Suarez pledged his future to Liverpool over the summer by signing a new four-year contract which suggests he isn’t really interested in a move anywhere else. It states that he wants to be a Liverpool player whether he has one goal to his name in January or 20. He’s also never said that he wants to leave Liverpool since he joined the club from Ajax under the managerial reign of Kenny Dalglish.
Ignore this story and move on, it won’t happen in January or at the end of the season.
