The FA show some sense: Arsenal get 20k more tickets than Wigan
The FA have today released ticket details for the two semi-final ties of this years FA Cup.
Arsenal play Wigan Athletic in the first semi-final on Saturday 12 April.
Championship side and defending FA Cup holders Wigan Athletic have been allocated 22,807 tickets whilst Premier League side Arsenal will receive 42,882.
Why the discrepancy?
Arsenal have one of the biggest fan bases in the country and the club is located very close to Wembley Stadium where the game will be played. Quite frankly, I think they’d come close to selling out the stadium if they were offered the whole stadium.
Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic will be making their fourth trip to Wembley Stadium in four months having played at the national stadium in last year’s FA Cup semi-final and final and the Commuinity Shield earlier this season.
At least year’s semi-final victory over Millwall, Wigan sold just over 20,000 tickets. We have not got an exact amount but we suspect it will be somewhere close to 22,807.
Wigan, who average considerably less than 22,807 at their home games didn’t even average that attendance when they were in the Premier League.
Latics fans have already travelled far and wide this season with their club having played 33 games in the Championship, 5 in the FA Cup, 1 in the League Cup, 1 in the Community Shield and 6 in the UEFA Europa League which included trips to Belgium, Russia and Slovenia.
