Cult Hero: Markus Babbel (Liverpool)

Club: Liverpool
Position: Defender
Nationality: German
German international Markus Babbel left the security of hometown giants Bayern Munich in the summer of 2000 to seek a new challenge on Merseyside.
In his first season, he did not disappoint. A centre-back by trade, the superb partnership between Stephan Henchez and Sami Hypia saw Babbel commanding the Liverpool right flank as a marauding full-back.
Always looking to get forward, Babbel was one of the most consistent performers in their historic treble-winning side. The German contributed three Premier League goals, including a late winner against Southampton at Anfield, however, he also bagged the opener in the amazing 5-4 UEFA Cup final win over Alaves.
