Smash of the game – Daniel Sturridge
The young Englishman was the most impressive player on the pitch, he never stopped attacking and quickly returned to defend when the Citizens had the ball. He passed by Gael Clichy with an excellent dribbling and delivered a great cross for Meireles to equalize the match and return the calmness to the Stamford Bridge. If he keeps playing like this, there’s no doubt that he will have an important role at the Euro 2012.
Trash of the game – Gael Clichy
For a player that still has to earn a place as a starter, the French full-back was the most erratic player on Monday. He couldn’t do anything to stop Sturridge attack that led to Chelsea’s first goal and by getting himself sent off, he made quite impossible Manchester City’s recovering. If there’s anyone to blame for Manchester City’s loss against Chelsea, it’s Gael Clichy.
Play of the game – The Cold Shower
At the second minute, Sergio “El Kun” Aguero displayed some of his skills to clear the path for Mario Balotelli, who was left almost alone, and made an incredible pass for the Italian. Balotelli, with great calmness, escaped from Branislav Ivanovic and rounded Petr Cech to put Manchester City up in the score. The only way this play could have been any better is if the young Italian had his “Why always me?” T-shirt on.
Special mentions to: the Chelsea’s fans, who chanted and supported their beloved Blues during the entire game; there’s no doubt that a goal two minutes after the start can be a big blow, but they sure trusted that their team could turn things around.
