Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has said that he will treat former team mate and Everton midfielder Darron Gibson to a “free meal” following his winner against Manchester City.
The Republic of Ireland international left Manchester United to join Everton in last month’s window and scored his first goal for the club against Manchester City in a 1-0 win for the Toffees at Goodsion Park.
With Rio’s United beating Stoke City 2-0 at Old Trafford, his side are now level on points with their title rivals having an identical record of 17 wins, three draws and three losses.
Speaking on Twitter, Rio said: “Just organising a FREE meal at my restaurant @RossoRestaurant for Darron Gibson!!”
Gibson, 24, will be hoping he can play regularly for Everton to earn his place in the Ireland side for Euro 2012.
