Tottenham Hotspur have contacted Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho about taking over at White Hart Lane if Harry Redknapp takes the England job, according to a Times journalist.
England will be looking for a new manager following this summer’s European Championships when current coach Fabio Capello steps down from the position.
Tottenham’s Redknapp has been favourite for the role for a considerable amount of time and it now appears the club are planning for his possible exit by bringing in ex-Chelsea man Mourinho.
The Portuguese coach is currently in the box seat to land his first La Liga title with Real Madrid in his second season in charge at the Bernabeu but it has been speculated previously by the Telegraph that he will quit the Spanish giants this summer in order to re-join the Premier League.
Mourinho left Chelsea in 2007 after leading the Blues to the Premier League title in 2004/05 and 2005/06. However, Mourinho failed to take Chelsea to the Champions League final, losing out to Liverpool in the semi-finals on two occasions.
