Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly beaten Liverpool in the race to sign Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, as reported by the BBC.
The Iceland midfielder, who had an impressive loan spell at Swansea City in the second half of last season, was expected to join the club permanently this summer but stalled on a move after manager Brendan Rogers departed for Liverpool.
New Swansea manager Michael Laudurp admitted a deal couldn’t be completed for the 22-year-old and it was then expected Sigurdsson would join up with Rogers at Liverpool. However, in another U-turn it now looks that he is set for White Hart Lane.
Despite being managerless since Harry Redknapp’s departure, it is believed Spurs have agreed an £8m fee for the midfielder, who could join as early as the end of this week.
Tottenham will be keen to bolster their midfield options as rumours grow that their Croatian starlet Luca Modric is set for a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Let’s hope Brendan Rodgers will be able to change the Liverpool donkeys to horses as he is waxing cold in signing new players. No fan will appreciate any silly Anfield defeat this season. Rodgers should wake up from this slumber before darkness falls. A word is enough for the wise.
