Football: betting on who faces the drop this year

Relegation from the Premier League is a nightmare – a financial one for the clubs and an emotional one for the supporters of them – but every season some clubs find themselves in a scrap to avoid it, and people bet on which ones will fail to survive.

It is probably not a type of football gambling that actual fans of these clubs can really enjoy, however nowadays alternatives are easy to find due to the growth of the online gambling industry as a whole; with the football-themed slots like Soccer Safari at online casinos such as http://www.bellerockentertainment.com, fans have an alternative to amuse themselves with. If fans are wanting to get away from football altogether though, then the card games and roulette tables can also provide a fun diversion from the stress of the relegation fight, and with regular bonuses and offers it really can turn into a worthwhile past-time. For those not emotionally invested though, which clubs are in the mix?

Well QPR are certainly one of them. The Loftus Road club took nearly half the season to register a victory and seem to be lacking in virtually every area of the team, despite having a huge and expensively assembled squad. Harry Redknapp is a good and experienced manager, but it is hard to see him keeping the side up without changing things significantly during the January window – and the odds on QPR to go down are in the region of 4/9 at most sports betting sites.

A couple of the newly promoted sides, Reading and Southampton, are in the relegation fight this season – with Reading having odds of around 1/7 and Southampton of 11/10. Again the transfer window could be key, but it is hard to see either team attracting players of the calibre needed to make a difference.

Another side that badly needs reinforcements is Aston Villa, as manager Paul Lambert is effectively fielding teenagers just now. Villa went on an absolutely horrendous run in December, which saw them lose 15 goals without reply over three games, and they currently have odds of around 13/8 to go down, at most sites.

Betting on a side, like Villa, currently just outside the relegation places may be the smartest bet you can make.
