Liverpool & Man Utd Target Set for Medical
Atlético Madrid striker Mario Mandžukić is set for a medical at Italian Serie A champions Juventus on Monday, according to Goal.
The Croatian international is expected to leave the Vicente Calderón Stadium this summer after reports that he had a bust up with the coaching staff back in February.
Mandžukić subsequently saw less playing time towards the end of the season having started the season so well, scoring 20 goals by the end of February.
Should the 29-year-old complete his move to Juventus, or any other club, it will have been the second consecutive summer in which he has transferred – both instigated by bust ups with coaching staff.
Atlético landed Mandžukić for around £17 million 12 months ago – Goal are reporting that Juventus will be signing the striker for £18 million.
The Italian champions and 2015 UEFA Champions League runners-up have already added Paulo Dybala up front, so the arrival of Mandžukić would intensify the claims that Carlos Tevez is returning to his homeland to play for Boca Juniors. The Argentine striker expects to finish his career there – he could be moving back home earlier than expected with 12 months left on his current deal.
Juventus’ new arrivals will also have Álvaro Morata and Fernando Llorente to compete with for the starting striker roles – giving the Serie A side a lot of firepower up front.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will have to look elsewhere for a striker with the Norther Irishman keen to add more firepower to his squad after they only scored 52 goals in the Premier League last season.
The Reds are expected to land a hitman this summer, but who that will be remains unclear.
Louis van Gaal is also believed to be looking to add a new striker to his Manchester United side after letting Radamel Falcao return to AS Monaco. The Red Devils do have Javier Hernández returning from his season-long loan at Real Madrid but whether the Mexican striker is in the Dutch manager’s plans for next season remains to be seen.
