Wayne Rooney netted an impressive 34 goals in 44 competitions during the last campaign, prompting many to speak of the England international in the same breath as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Since then, things have rapidly dried up for the United number ten. Three goals in 15 appearances this season is cause for concern.
With off the field issues to deal with, Sir Alex gave the striker an extended holiday following his abysmal World Cup. Nevertheless, it has proved to have had little effect.
Giving rise to the question, is Rooney simply overrated? Give us your thoughts!
