Chelsea Set to Land Manchester City Target
Chelsea are set to complete a deal for New York Red Bulls centre-back Matt Miazga in the coming days, according to ESPN.
The Mirror are also reporting a deal is in place and believe it to be worth around £3.5 million including add-ons for the 2o-year-old.
Miazga is considered one of the brightest young players currently plying his trade in the MLS and made his international debut for Jürgen Klinsmann’s USA side back in November.
The youngster has completed his first full season with the Red Bulls, featuring in 30 of their matches after only making a handful of appearances prior.
Matt Miazga is now in the final 12 months of his contract, and after rejecting a new deal before Christmas, it appears the club are ready to cash in on the player while they still have the chance to get money for him.
The 6’4″ centre-back has previously attracted attention from fellow Premier League sides Manchester City, Stoke City and Leicester City over the past six months.
However, it appears Chelsea are about to win the race for the youngster’s signature with the Mirror reporting that the Premier League champions are closing in on a deal this month.
Despite being called up to the USA team for upcoming friendlies versus Iceland and Canada this week, ESPN have reported that Miazga has left the team behind to head to London for a medical on Wednesday.
The one-time USA international also holds Polish citizenship, meaning he would avoid any work permit issues required to move to England.
