Manchester United Get More Good Injury News Ahead of Man City Clash
Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has declared himself fully fit and available for selection ahead of tomorrow’s highly-anticipated Manchester derby.
The 21-year-old missed England’s 1-0 victory over Slovakia last Sunday after pulling out of Sam Allardyce’s squad.
Shaw was said to have removed himself from the squad as a precautionary measure and he will now be available for José Mourinho to face Manchester City at the Theatre of Dreams this weekend.
Taking to his official Instagram account, Shaw posted up an image of himself training at Carrington stating that he was back and that he was ready for the derby.
He is now expected to be named in the starting XI by the Portuguese manager as the club aim to make it four wins from four to start the 2016-17 Premier League season.
News of Shaw’s return will come as massive boost to the Old Trafford faithful. The left-back has started each of United’s opening three leagues games thus far and has been one of the clubs standout performers on the field.
His ability to bomb forward, combined with his excellent work tracking back, makes him a real asset for Mourinho and one which could potentially prove to be the difference in United getting the three points tomorrow.
We reported earlier in the week that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will also be available to Mourinho tomorrow following an injury scare whilst away on international duty over the past week.
With Pep Gaurdiola expected to set up his new-look Manchester City side in a more defensive formation without their talisman Sergio Agüero, there may be limited space on the pitch. It could be very compact midfield and United will need players who can get in and behind the City backline and in Shaw Mourinho has someone who can do just that.
From left-back, Shaw will look to get forward at every opportunity running down the flank and getting the ball into the box to feed the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimović. It is essential United make the most of the flanks against City and with Shaw in the side he will undoubtedly give Mourinho’s men an extra edge going forward.
At just 21 years of age Luke Shaw stands as one of, if not the finest left-back in English football and the frightening thing is he will only get better. Should he continue his development as a player, he could go on to become the club#s number one choice left-back for the next decade.
He is ultimately a massive threat to City and with news of him being fully fit for the derby already gives United an early advantage over their arch-rivals.
