MLS News… Manchester United legend follows in Pele’s footsteps
Former Manchester United star Eric Cantona has taken up a new role as a director of soccer for the New York Cosmos.
The Cosmos, who once had Brazilian legend Pele on their books, are not yet an official MLS outfit but that may be resolved sooner rather than later with league chiefs keen on adding to their roster.
Cantona retired from football in 1997, with spells of note at Manchester United and Leeds United, but never delved back into football until now. The Frenchman took the route of becoming an actor and has starred in such films as “Looking for Eric”.
“It’s a wonderful project,” said a delighted Cantona. “It’s kind of a mix between football and art.”
The New York Cosmos have been recently re-formed after playing host to the likes of Pele back in the 1970s.
