£29m Star Who Was to Have Man Utd Medical Confirms Arsenal Move After Talks with Arsène Wenger
Over the years, players past and present have confirmed Arsène Wenger is the reason behind them joining Arsenal. Only two days ago Mesut Özil confirmed he made up his mind to join Arsenal after holding talks with the Gunners boss. Wenger’s persuasive power not only convinced Özil, and Granit Xhaka, but Aaron Ramsey has now come out to say he was convinced to join Arsenal after holding talks with Arsène Wenger.
The former-Cardiff City player was chased by the trio of Everton, Manchester United and Arsenal. At one stage it was said Manchester United had won the race after Sir Alex Ferguson sent Paul Scholes to convince the then 17-year-old to join the Red Devils ahead of the chasing pack.
Manchester United even went as far as announcing they had agreed a deal to sign the Welshman and that the deal will be finalised after a medical. However, Arsenal moved in and won the race for the signature of Ramsey. The Welsh international has now revealed he was only convinced to join Arsenal ahead of the Red Devils after talking to Wenger.
Ramsey is quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“I had to make a decision at the time [of signing for Arsenal].
“I flew over to see the boss [Wenger] and I knew straight away that this was where I wanted to be, I wanted to be in his plans and I was just buzzing.
“I think I am a bit louder now than I was then! You understand how things go on and off the pitch a bit better.
“It only seems like the other day that I was signing for Arsenal, but there has been eight years in between – so it goes before you notice really.”
This indicates a problem Arsenal will likely have when Wenger leaves the club or retires. Will Arsenal be able to bring in a replacement as persuasive as Wenger? Let’s face it, comments from star players such as Alexis Sánchez and Mesut Özil suggest they wouldn’t have joined the Gunners if it were not for Wenger. This much has been confirmed by the players themselves. They simply had no better reason to join Arsenal than for the manager.
They even have a better chance of winning titles with clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. With the aforementioned clubs, these players would have also had a chance of making more money than they currently do with Arsenal. Aaron Ramsey, whose current market value is £29.75 million for instance reportedly earns £110,000-a-week with Arsenal when he could have easily earned more with Manchester United, for instance, if he had moved there.
Arsène Wenger is quite replaceable but replacing him certainly won’t be a easy task. Just ask Manchester United fans about Sir Alex…
