Jürgen Klopp Confirms Liverpool Star Will Return for Man Utd Trip
Liverpool have been handed a major boost ahead of their next Premier League game as Jürgen Klopp has confirmed that Jordan Henderson will be fit to face Manchester United at Old Trafford next weekend, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The club captain missed Monday’s 2-2 draw at Sunderland after limping out of the win over Manchester City on New Year’s Eve with a heel injury.
Henderson has been plagued by heel issues over the past year so Liverpool fans could have been concerned that the midfielder might be facing another lengthy spell on the physio table.
However, Klopp has eased any fears after revealing that his central midfielder’s injury is not serious and that Henderson is already on his way back to full fitness.
The Liverpool captain will not feature in tomorrow’s FA Cup third round tie against Plymouth Argyle as well as Wednesday’s EFL Cup semi-final first leg at Southampton.
Instead, Jürgen Klopp is confident the skipper will be fit and available for the Merseysiders trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United next Sunday.
The Reds boss is quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying:
“It’s good news. He has this issue with the heel which meant we had to take him out for a while but he’s already on the way back.
“He has no chance for this weekend and there will be no risk for the Southampton game but after that it’s absolutely possible that he will be back.”
This news will come as a major boost to Liverpool as Henderson has become an integral part of Klopp’s impressive side so far this season, playing a key role in helping the club put in a serious title challenge.
Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League table and are now only five points behind leaders Chelsea after the Blues lost at Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
Manchester United themselves are in superb run of form having won their last six league games, and are playing both their FA Cup and EFL Cup ties a day before Liverpool on each occasion. The Red Devils are five points behind rivals Liverpool.
Therefore, the showdown at Old Trafford on Super Sunday is going to be crucial to both sides hopes this campaign so Klopp will be relieved to have Henderson back for the big clash.
