€25m Bid for Key Antonio Conte Target – Mikel Replacement?
If a report by Goal.com is to be believed then Paris Saint-Germain have moved ahead of Chelsea and other interested parties in the race for the signature of Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessie. The highly-rated central midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League leaders over the past couple of days with reports claiming Antonio Conte would like to move for the 20-year-old this month.
PSG have however moved ahead of the chasing pack with an opening bid of €25 million (£20.2m) for the player. Kessie has been one of Atlanta’s best players in Serie A so far this season, playing a total of 16 league games and scoring six times, something pretty remarkable for a player who is mainly a defensive midfielder.
Only a few days ago the player’s agent, George Atangana, confirmed the interest of Manchester United and Chelsea in the player. Goal.com are reporting that Kessie is valued at £30 million which means PSG are far short of Atlanta’s valuation of the player. But with an opening bid made, Chelsea may need to move fast if they really want the player.
With a number of clubs believed to be interested in the midfielder, Franck Kessie must have something going for him. And with both John Obi Mikel and Oscar moving to China, Chelsea could do with the signing of another central midfielder.
The Blues are well placed to win the Premier league title in Conte’s first season but an injury to N’Golo Kanté or Nemanja Matić could ruin their chances hence a move for Franck Kessie would make perfect sense. The Ivorian can play in both defensive midfield and as a deep lying midfielder to add depth to the Italian manager’s options in the centre of his midfield.
