Chelsea Ready to Agree £21m Signing of Juventus Target
A couple of weeks ago when news emerged that Diego Costa’s head has been turned by a big money offer from a Chinese Super League team, many Chelsea fans though the club was going to lose its star striker. However, although Costa is most likely going to stay at Chelsea for the remainder of the season at least, it is generally believed that the Spaniard will eventually leave the Blues – maybe as early as the summer.
To ensure the Premier League leaders doesn’t feel the impact of the seemingly inevitable departure of Diego Costa, manager Antoino Conte has reportedly told the Chelsea board to get him Sassuolo striker Domenico Berardi during the summer transfer window.
According to a report by the Metro who are also citing La Repubblica as their source, Chelsea have had scouts watch the highly rated 22-year-old striker a couple of times in the last few weeks and reports from the scouts has impressed Conte who now wants a deal done in the summer.
Berardi, 22, has scored 40 goals in 96 league games in Italy over the last three seasons and rejected a move to Juventus two years ago. His scoring record in such a defensive league as Serie A has seen him linked with so many clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool and Serie A trio of AS Roma, AC Milan and Juventus – who reportedly have an option of buying him for €25 million (£21m).
Although not yet a world class striker, anyone who has seen the Italian play will agree he has what it takes to become world class in the not too distant future. At just 22, he still has his best years ahead of him and will likely do well in the Premier League should Chelsea manage to sign him.
