Arsène Wenger Offers Update on Ramsey

Arsène Wenger has given an update on Aaron Ramsey after the midfielder limped out of Arsenal’s shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Watford last night.

The Welsh international was restored to the starting XI for Tuesday night’s game having been rested for the 5-0 thrashing of Southampton in the FA Cup over the weekend.

Ramsey went down clutching his leg in the 20th minute and after receiving treatment from the club’s physio he was eventually forced off and replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It was part of a nightmare 20 minutes for Ramsey as a Younès Kaboul free kick took a wicked deflection off the Arsenal player for the Hornets’ opening goal before he failed to control a Gabriel Paulista throw-in which led to Watford’s second goal.

Aaron Ramsey could now be facing a spell on the sidelines as Arsène Wenger has confirmed that the 26-year-old suffered a calf strain last night – although the Gunners boss wouldn’t be drawn on a timescale for how long he could be ruled out for.

This will come as a huge blow to Arsenal as even a minor calf strain will take a couple of weeks to recover, so Ramsey is now set to miss Saturday’s huge trip to Stamford Bridge to take on runaway Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Mohamed Elneny is still at the Africa Cup of Nations, Granit Xhaka has only served two of his four-game suspension and Santi Cazorla is still out with an achilles injury, leaving Arsenal down to the bare bones in midfield for arguably the biggest game of their season.

It will be interesting to see who Wenger goes with on Saturday to partner Francis Coquelin. Alex Iwobi was moved in to the middle last night but the boss might opt to give youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles a chance after impressive versus Southampton.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Wenger commented on Ramsey:

Sell that idiot Ramsey. He is more of a liability rather than been helpful to the club. He has play for more than 7yrs no improvement on his game. Sell average Giroud who called himself a strike. Start Perez in most of our games. He looks sharper than boring Actor Giroud. Wenger, it’s about time you left the club for able hands to take us to the promise land.
