5 players Aston Villa should sell this January
Despite his versatility, Reo-Coker – who is now 26 – is deemed by some to be a limited player. He has lots of energy and is strong in the tackle, but has a terrible knack of giving the ball away with poor passing skills. Ultimately, Reo-Coker’s Villa career has largely been extended because the club have had to sell star players such as Gareth Barry and James Milner; add to that Stephen Ireland’s lack of enthusiasm to perform in a Villa shirt and an injury to Stiliyan Petrov.
4. Habib Beye
After a consistent season with Newcastle, the signing of Beye was deemed to be a sensible, low risk purchase. However, he has never won a regular place in the team and finds himself behind centre-back Carlos Cuellar who plays ahead of him at full-back. Beye is now 33-years-old and could be a solid signing for those teams looking to stay up this season.
3. Stephen Ireland
The Irishman, who has turned down the chance to play for his country on a permanent basis, hasn’t settled in Birmingham. He was Manchester City’s player of the year in 2008 but never played regularly under Roberto Mancini the following season. Ireland’s conduct, in terms of his fight for compensation to move to Aston Villa and the look of his pad in the hit Channel Four show Come Dine With Me, suggest he is only interested in cash and playing regularly. It may be best to move him on.
