Player Ratings: Sunderland 0-3 Man Utd
Manchester United ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at 10-man Sunderland this afternoon to remain in the hunt for a top four finish.
Zlatan Ibrahimović opened the scoring with a superb solo effort from 18 yards on 30 minutes before Sunderland were reduced to 10 men in the first half as Sebastian Larsson was harshly shown red for a challenge on Ander Herrera.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan put the game beyond Sunderland with United’s second inside the opening 60 seconds of the second half before Marcus Rashford came off the bench to score late on.
Here are CSAR’s player ratings from Sunderland 0-3 Manchester United:
Sergio Romero 7 – Made an excellent save to deny Victor Anichebe from close range before half-time but otherwise a comfortable afternoon for the Argentine who was well-protected.
Matteo Darmian 8 – Solid game at right-back not allowing Sebastian Larsson or Victor Anichebe much in open play. Offered support going forward too.
Eric Bailly 8 – Jermain Defoe was not a threat at all day as Eric Bailly was solid in protecting his goalkeeper.
Marcos Rojo 7 – A little fortunate not to concede a penalty for a trip on Anichebe but otherwise a comfortable afternoon for the Argentine playing at centre-back once again.
Luke Shaw 8 – A good game after conceding an early, needless yellow card. Luke Shaw bombed forward to offer his side width in a game that United dominated possession.
Marouane Fellaini 7 – Saw a fair bit of the ball and played it into teammates in the final third. Didn’t have a whole lot of work to do defensively but did pick up a needless yellow card for kicking the ball away.
Ander Herrera 8 – Helped Manchester United dominate possession by maintaining the ball in the centre of the pitch. Created the odd chance for his teammates but didn’t threaten Jordan Pickford himself.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 8 – Finished the game inside 60 seconds of the second half with a fine finish to make it 2-0. Was heavily involved in the game but not so much in the goalscoring chances either side of his goal.
Paul Pogba 8 – Forced one save out of Jordan Pickford, wasn’t too far off with an effort from a free kick. Showed some nice touches and passes.
Jesse Lingard 6 – Forced a couple of comfortable saves from the Sunderland goalkeeper but didn’t create much out wide despite seeing his fair share of the ball in decent positions.
Zlatan Ibrahimović 9 – Had made a couple of poor decisions and passes before opening the scoring with a superb solo effort on half hour. Held the ball up well afterwards and created a couple of chances including their third goal for Marcus Rashford.
Daley Blind (30 mins) N/A – Given a run out at left-back with the game wrapped up and Luke Shaw on a yellow card.
Marcus Rashford (27 mins) N/A – Finally ended his goal drought with a late strike across Pickford on the counter-attack.
Anthony Martial (13 mins) N/A – Had an effort on goal with his first touch but otherwise didn’t make much of an impact.
