Confirmed Lineups: Middlesbrough vs Arsenal
Arsenal need three points at the Riverside Stadium this evening to keep up their feint hopes of a top four finish this season, whilst Middlesbrough are desperate for a win in their battle to avoid relegation.
Arsène Wenger’s side were hammered 3-0 at Crystal Palace last Monday, taking qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League places out of their control. Arsenal start this evening’s game 10 points off the UEFA Champions League places but with two games in hand on Manchester City who are fourth, and three games in hand on Liverpool who are two points above the Citizens.
The two teams for this evening’s game are confirmed as:
Brad Guzan; Antonio Barragán, Daniel Ayala, Ben Gibson, Fabio; Adam Clayton, Marten de Roon, Grant Leadbitter, Gastón Ramírez, Stewart Downing; Álvaro Negredo
Substitutes: Dimitrios Konstantopoulos, George Friend, Bernardo, Adam Forshaw, Adama Traoré, Patrick Bamford, Rudy Gestede
Middlesbrough make five changes from their draw against Burnley last time out. Víctor Valdés is injured so Brad Guzan comes in with 38-yaer-old Dimitrios Konstantopoulos his backup.
Álvaro Negredo leads the line up front and will have support from Gastón Ramírez and Stewart Downing.
Petr Čech; Gabriel Paulista, Laurent Koscielny, Rob Holding; Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka, Nacho Monreal; Mesut Özil, Alexis Sánchez; Olivier Giroud
Substitutes: Emiliano Martínez, Héctor Bellerín, Kieran Gibbs, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott
Arsène Wenger has made six changes from last Monday and will revert to a back three for the first time in two decades.
It appears Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Nacho Monreal will play the wing back roles whilst Rob Holding makes his first start since the third game of the season. The young centre-back will partner Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista with Shkodran Mustafi injured.
Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez will lineup behind striker Olivier Giroud in what appears to be a 3-4-2-1 formation.
