Jürgen Klopp Wants to Bring Young German Forward to Liverpool
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is expected to strengthen his squad over the summer after qualifying for the UEFA Champions League playoffs by finishing 4th this past season.
The Reds boss is optimistic about his club’s future ahead of what promises to be a busy and exciting summer transfer window for the Merseyside club.
Klopp has identified a number of transfer targets for the summer, with the Independent claiming that both Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk and RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita are at the top of his list.
The report also states that the German manager wants to sign fellow countryman Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.
Werner was capped by his country for the first time this year after scoring a very impressive 21 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances for the club that finished runners-up immediately following promotion from the second tier.
The 21-year-old would suit Liverpool’s tactics very well as he can play anywhere across the front three, likes to dribble with the ball and is a good counter-attack threat.
It is believed that Klopp is looking for a new centre forward this summer with Daniel Sturridge’s fitness issues being a real concern. Roberto Firmino played the majority of the season in that role in the coach’s 4-3-3 system but it is understood the former-Borussia Dortmund man wants an out-and-out striker there next season.
The Independent have not put a price tag on the young striker but money should not be an issue for a Premier League side and one who could be in next season’s Champions League.
