Real Madrid Make £118m Bid for Arsenal Target
Real Madrid have made an astronomical bid of £118 million for AS Monaco striker Kylian Mbappé, according to the Sun.
The 18-year-old is also a target of Arsenal, who themselves were reported to have made an £87 million bid for the French sensation only last week.
Mbappé is being linked with a move to a number of clubs but the Spanish giants are believed to be the favourites to land the hot property.
However, positive news for Gunners fans is that the same report in the Sun states that both Arsène Wenger and chief Ivan Gazidis were spotted in Nice on Monday – only 13 miles from Monaco.
Arsenal currently have both Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck up top in Wenger’s 3-4-2-1 formation so there’s nothing to say Mbappé wouldn’t be their first choice striker if he moved to the Emirates this summer. Whereas the teenager may only be used sparingly if he went to the 2017 UEFA Champions League winners whom have both Karim Benzema and Álvaro Morata at their disposal.
Kylian Mbappé scored 15 goals in 29 Ligue 1 appearances (17 starts) as Monaco surprisingly won the title. He also scored six goals in nine Champions League matches, including becoming the first player to score in each of his first four knockout ties.
The 18-year-old has already been compared to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry with his intelligence, movement, composure and finishing.
Should the Sun be accurate in their report of a £118 million bid, and should Monaco accept the offer, Mbappé would become the most expensive player in the world, surpassing fellow countryman Paul Pogba whom Manchester United splashed out £89.3 million last summer. Former-Monaco player Anthony Martial is currently the most expensive teenager in the world – he moved to Old Trafford in 2015 for £36 million.
Whoever ends up with Kylian Mbappé next season has an incredible prospect on their hands.
