Manchester United will face extra competition in their bid to sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to Manchester Evening News.

The MEN are citing sources close to the player that German giants Bayern Munich have entered the race for the Belgian hotshot’s signature.

United boss José Mourinho is believed to be keen on adding a new striker to his books this summer following the serious knee injury suffered by Zlatan Ibrahimović towards the end of this past season.  This is despite already having both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial on his books.

Lukaku’s name has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, as well as Premier League champions Chelsea, for whom the 24-year-old briefly worked at under Mourinho.

Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti is believed to be a long-time admirer of the Everton striker, though the Italian coach does already have Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller on his books at the Allianz Arena.

Romelu Lukaku is widely-expected to leave Goodison Park this summer as he enters the final 24 months of his current deal and having turned down a £140,000-a-week extension offer.  MEN believe any potential suitor will have to pay around £100 million for his services.

The Belgium star netted 25 goals in 37 Premier League appearances for the Toffees this past season but is understood to want to play UEFA Champions League football next season.  He is good in the air and gets in good positions inside the penalty area.
