Arsenal Could Go for Emil Forsberg If They Fail to Get Thomas Lemar
Emil Forsberg was one of the best players in the German Bundesliga last season so it comes as no surprise that he has been linked with moves to the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.
In May Liverpool’s interest was reported before it was reported that Arsenal have also taken an interest in the Swedish international the following month. Although no recent reports have linked either club to the player, I believe Arsenal could well come back for him. An opinion many RB Leipzig fans and won’t want to hear.
Arsenal’s first choice appears to be Thomas Lemar, but with AS Monaco refusing to sell, it would not surprise me if Arsène Wenger making a move for Emil Forsberg – especially as he is reportedly available for a £30 million transfer fee.
RB Leipzig will certainly be reluctant to sell one of their best players but should the player want a move away, and if Arsenal are ready to pay what’s needed, I can see him moving to the Emirates this summer. Having seen him play a number of times, I think he is suited to the Gunners’ style of play.
His signing could also mark the end of Theo Walcott’s time at Arsenal as could the signing of Lemar. Forsberg scored eight goals and created 19 assist in 34 games last season as RB Leipzig shocked German football by finishing runners-up to Bayern Munich in their first season in the top flight. For only £30 million, Arsenal would be getting a top player. The 25-year-old is not only useful on the right flank but also in the number 10 role currently occupied by Mesut Özil.
Should Arsenal come in for Forsberg and eventually sign him, it would be interesting to see who RB Leipzig replace him with as his presence in the team last season was largely responsible for Timo Werner’s form. Werner scored 21 goals last season leading to his German national team debut.
