Arsenal Plan Move for 30 Goal, 6 Assists Striker – Sánchez or Giroud’s Replacement?
With Alexis Sánchez still yet to sign a new contract with Arsenal, the Gunners may be forced to sell him between now and the end of the summer transfer window to avoid him leaving on a free transfer at the end of his contract in 2018. Although Arsène Wenger has so far denied Sánchez, Mesut Özil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be sold this summer, they are all in the final year of their contracts. I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two of them are sold.
Sánchez, who is currently on holiday after playing for Chile at the recent FIFA Confederations Cup, only recently cast doubts over his Arsenal future by saying he wants to play in the UEFA Champions League and win it; a competition the Gunners are absent from this upcoming season.
The Chilean was quoted by the Guardian as saying;
“My idea is to play and win the Champions League, it is a dream I have had since I was little.”
That doesn’t sound like the statement of someone who will be signing a new contract in my opinion. He knows Arsenal haven’t won the Champions league and does not appear like they will be winning it any time soon.
Should Sánchez be sold, Arsenal intend to make a move for Celtic and France international striker Moussa Dembélé. The France under-21 international was constantly linked with a move to the Emirates whilst he was with Fulham, but Celtic moved quickly and signed him last summer. He has since seen his stock rise which has led to he being linked with moves to the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and now Arsenal.
Dembélé is valued at £30 million which is not bad for a 21-year-old striker with his best years ahead of him. He scored 3o goals and created six assists in all competition for Celtic last season. His versatility enables him to play anywhere in attack, something that will be of interest to Wenger I’m sure.
Would he be able to match Alexis Sánchez?
Should Sánchez be sold this summer and replaced by Dembélé , I don’t see the youngster being a direct replacement for the Chilean star. However, Arsenal should be moving for Dembélé as a replacement to either Olivier Giroud or Theo Walcott. Aside the newly-signed Alexandre Lacazette, Arsenal do not have any other reliable striker currently. Danny Welbeck has not proven his fitness since joining the club.
