Arsenal have collected their second piece of silverware in as any games as they beat Chelsea at Wembley Stadium for the second time in less than three months – this time winning the Community Shied to add to May’s FA Cup success.

The Gunners had to come from behind after Victor Moses gave the Premier League champions immediately at the start of the second half.  It was summer signing Sead Kolašinac who stepped up with a headed equaliser from the free kick Arsenal were awarded from Pedro’s red card.  Kolašinac himself entered the field after half hour to replace Per Mertesacker who went off with a broken nose.

Arsenal won the penalty shootout 4-1 in the new ABBA format with Thibaut Courtois and Álvaro Morata missing for the Blues.

Here are CSAR’s player ratings from the Community Shield:

Petr Čech 7 – Was alert to deny Michy Batshuayi a one-on-one midway through the first half and made a good couple of stops with his legs.  Chelsea didn’t create many chances in 90 minutes.  Didn’t have a chance with the goal.

Rob Holding 7 – Caught out for Chelsea’s opener but otherwise was fairly solid.

Per Mertesacker N/A – Replaced in the first half after Gary Cahill’s elbow split the German’s nose.  Arsenal had been on top to that point.

Nacho Monreal 7 – Another solid performance from the Spaniard who finished in the middle of the back three due to injuries.  Allowed Chelsea few opportunities at goal.

Héctor Bellerín 6 – Offered width down the right but poor crosses from the right as always.  Picked up a yellow card in the first half.

Mohamed Elneny 8 – Did well in breaking up the play in the middle of the park, protecting his back three.

Granit Xhaka 8 – Good game in midfield and delivered a nice free kick for Arsenal’s equaliser.  Also tested Thibaut Courtois from 30 yards.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 6 – Played the left wingback role as he did in the FA Cup final but didn’t create much or cause much of a threat from out there.

Danny Welbeck 7 – Looked a threat to the Chelsea defence and linked up well with Alexandre Lacazette.  Went off injured late on.

Alex Iwobi 7 – Made some good runs off the ball to find space but ultimately didn’t get involved in many chances.

Alexandre Lacazette 7 – Showed a lot of promise with his strength and pace.  Hit the face of the post in the first half from an attack he started inside his own half, playing two one-twos with teammates.

Sead Kolašinac (59 mins) 8 – The Bosnian defender was introduced in the first half due to Mertesacker’s injury.  Sead Kolašinac looked strong and determined and headed home Arsenal’s equaliser.

Olivier Giroud (35 mins) N/A – Late appearance and scored the winning penalty in the shootout.

Theo Walcott (34 mins) N/A – One nice cross that none of his teammates got onto the end of but otherwise failed to make an impact.

Reiss Nelson (4 mins) N/A – Very late introduction that didn’t get time to do anything of note.

Thibaut Courtois 7 – Made good saves from Elneny and Xhaka and wasn’t given a chance with Arsenal’s equaliser.  Did casually sky his penalty in the shootout though!

César Azpilicueta 5 – A somewhat sloppy performance from the Spaniard who was consistent all of last season.

David Luiz 8 – Solid performance from the Brazilian who kept Arsenal’s attackers at bay for most of the game.  Even had the grace to chip the ball over Danny Welbeck inside his own six-yard box.

Gary Cahill 8 – Good performance from Gary Cahill who set up Victor Moses’ opener and made a key block late on to deny Arsenal a winner in regulation time.

Victor Moses 8 – A much better performance from the right wingback compared to being sent off in the FA Cup final.  A well-taken goal at the start of the second half.

Cesc Fàbregas 5 – A very quiet game from the former-Arsenal captain.

N’Golo Kanté 7 – The usual performance in midfield from N’Golo Kanté in breaking up the opposition’s possession and starting counter-attacks.

Marcos Alonso 5 – Not the usual attacking threat as he was last season and allowed Héctor Bellerín to get a number of crosses in from the wing.

Pedro 5 – Had one promising run in the first half but it led to nothing.  Sent off for raking his studs down Mohamed Elneny’s Achilles.  The resulting free kick led to Arsenal’s equaliser.

Willian 7 – Booked for being tripped up in the penalty area.  The usual hardworking performance from the Brazilian who set up a couple of chances also.

Michy Batshuayi 6 – Worked hard but lacked the support to cause any problems for Petr Čech.

Álvaro Morata (19 mins) N/A – A bright cameo appearance from Chelsea’s record signing.  Álvaro Morata won a number of headers and looked lively.

Antonio Rüdiger (12 mins) N/A – Limited time on the pitch at left wingback but looked very quick.

Charly Musonda (9 mins) N/A – Barely had a touch of the ball after coming on.
