PSG Ready to Offer Arsenal £80m for Alexis Sánchez
Paris Saint-Germain are ready to spend even more cash by making an £80 million off for Arsenal’s want-away star Alexis Sánchez, according to the Independent.
The wealthy French side have only recently spent a world record transfer fee on Neymar, acquiring the Brazilian for a reported £200 million from Barcelona.
Alexis Sánchez’s future at Arsenal has been under much scrutiny this summer after refusing to sign a new contract. The Chilean is now in the final year of his current deal at the Emirates meaning he is free to leave next summer if he is not sold beforehand.
Gunners boss Arsène Wenger has even insisted that the club will not sell Sánchez even if the player doesn’t sign a new deal. The French manager appears to be hoping that the 28-year-old can fire his side back into the top four this season, or maybe even win the Premier League – but can he really expect the best out of a player who wants to leave?
Should the report in the Independent today be accurate then Wenger and the club should seriously consider what Paris Saint-Germain are putting on the table. Whilst the Gunners kick off their Premier League campaign this Friday, there are still more than three weeks to find a replacement for the forward.
Alexis Sánchez has been strongly linked with a move to Premier League rivals Manchester City this summer. Whilst I can understand Wenger refusing to sell to one of his rivals once again, rejecting £80 million from PSG seems rather bizarre.
The Gunners don’t currently have an out-and-out replacement for Sánchez. Admittedly, he is one of the best players in world football right now. However, £80 million could go a long way towards finding a suitable replacement and maybe even leave money in the bank to upgrade another area of the team.
One would have to think Sánchez would be interested in the deal as the Independent report that the Ligue 1 giants are ready to offer the superstar a £400,000-a-week deal – more than Manchester City are reportedly willing to pay, and a lot more than he is currently on in North London.
It looks as though the Alexis Sánchez transfer saga is going to roll on throughout the month. Arsenal can certainly expect a few offers from Europe’s top clubs over the coming days and weeks.
