Player Ratings: Swansea 0-4 Man Utd
Manchester United have recorded back-to-back 4-0 wins to start the 2017-18 Premier League season with the thrashing of Swansea City today.
Eric Bailly opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time before Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial all scored in the final 15 minutes – the same trio who scored in last weekend’s demolition of West Ham.
Martin Olsson’s tame overhead kick was Swansea City’s only effort on target all game meaning José Mourinho’s team have only allowed two shots on target in 180 minutes this season.
Here are CSAR’s player ratings from Swansea City 0-4 Manchester United:
David de Gea 6 – The Spaniard had one shot to grab in a quiet day for the Manchester United goalkeeper.
Antonio Valencia 7 – Easy game defensively as Swansea had little width down the left in a game they offered very little threat. Antonio Valencia saw a lot of the ball, bringing in forward, but didn’t cause any problems for the hosts defence.
Eric Bailly 9 – A rock at the back today and scored the important opening goal for Manchester United. Protected David de Gea well for a second consecutive week.
Phil Jones 8 – Solid defensive performance from Phil Jones who is keeping Victor Lindelöf and Chris Smalling out of the team. Made an importance interception early in the second half to deny Tammy Abraham a one-on-one whilst keeping the Chelsea loanee in his pocket all game.
Daley Blind 8 – Kept Jordan Ayew under control and put a couple of decent crosses into the box.
Nemanja Matić 9 – Another excellent performance from the Serbian, Nemanja Matić got on the ball constantly to start attacks. He looked after possession well and won the ball back for his side a number of times.
Paul Pogba 8 – Cheeky finish to give United a 3-0 lead in the final 10 minutes. Had risked a red card in the first half by receiving a final warning minutes after picking up a yellow card. Was disciplined afterwards and played very well in midfield.
Juan Mata 7 – Saw his fair share of possession but not a huge factor in attack. Juan Mata was replaced with quarter-of-an-hour to go when the score was 1-0.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 9 – Two beautiful assists from the Armenian playing in the number 10 role. Henrikh Mkhitaryan now has four assists in the first two Premier League games of the new season.
Marcus Rashford 8 – Was a good threat down the left wing again, testing Łukasz Fabiański on three occasions.
Romelu Lukaku 7 – Saw little of the ball and could have got in better positions but scored the killer goal to make it 2-0 with 10 minutes to go.
Anthony Martial (16 mins) N/A – Two substitute appearances and two composed finishes. Anthony Martial is earning a reputation of an impact sub to start this season.
Marouane Fellaini (16 mins) N/A – Brought on at 1-0 with quarter-of-an-hour to go to help see out the victory and United ended up scoring three more goals.
Ander Herrera (6 mins) N/A – Late appearance from the Spaniard who didn’t get time to make an impact.
