Bayern Munich have Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement lined up

Bayern Munich dismissed head coach Carlo Ancelotti last week following their humiliating 3-0 loss at Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.

The weekend before the defending German Bundesliga champions had blown a 2-0 half-time lead to draw at home to VfL Wolfsburg.

Former-player Willy Sagnol took up the interim head coach role this past weekend as the Bavarians once again blew a 2-0 lead to draw, this time at Hertha Berlin.

With the international break giving the 2012-13 Champions League winners extra time to think about it, German newspaper Bild are reporting that Jupp Heynckes will be appointed for his fourth spell in charge at Bayern Munich.

Heynckes has not had a coaching role since he was replaced at the end of the 2012-13 season by Pep Guardiola at the Allianz Arena.  The current Manchester City manager was actually announced he would be replacing Heynckes at the end of that season in January and Heynckes still managed to go on and win the treble with the club.

Carlo Ancelotti replaced Guardiola at the start of last season, winning the Bundesliga in his only full season in charge at the Bavarians.  However, they were eliminated at the quarter-finals by Real Madrid in the Champions League and the semi-finals of the German Cup to rivals Borussia Dortmund last season.

This season’s slow start added by the humiliation in Paris saw the Bayern Munich board lose patience in the successful coach.

Should der Bild be accurate in their reports that Heynckes will take charge for his fourth spell in Munich, the 72-year-old will be looking for a fourth Bundesliga crown with the club.  As well as winning the Champions League with the German giants, he also won the competition with Real Madrid in 1997-98.
