Pedro Obiang adds to West Ham injury woes [Full list]
West Ham United were eliminated at the fourth round of this season’s FA Cup at the hands of League One leaders Wigan Athletic earlier today.
Will Grigg scored a goal in each half, either side of Hammers full-back Arthur Masuaku being sent off for spitting at Nick Powell.
This can be considered the lowest point of David Moyes’ time in charge of West Ham since taking over in November. He has guided the East London club from relegation candidates to 11th place in the Premier League.
Moyes made a number of changes to his starting XI from their usual Premier League side, which included Joe Hart returning in goal and youngsters Reece Burke, Josh Cullen and Toni Martinez all starting.
Not only were West Ham eliminated from this season’s FA Cup, but they also lost another player to injury as Pedro Obiang was stretchered off in the first half with a knee injury.
There is no news yet on how long Obiang will be sidelined for but the midfielder is certainly expected to miss West Ham’s game against Crystal Palace at the London Stadium on Tuesday night.
Obiang joins a long list of West Ham players who are injured. The full list is as follows:
Michail Antonio (Calf)
Marko Arnautović (Hamstring)
André Ayew (Hamstring)
Andy Carroll (Ankle)
Edimilson Fernandes (Ankle)
José Fonte (Foot)
Mark Noble (Foot)
Winston Reid (Groin)
Diafra Sakho (Knee)
West Ham are particularly hurt in midfield but have a number of youngsters who have been among the first team this season who could be handed a chance this coming week in their London derby versus Palace.
