Revealed: When Arsenal Are Likely to Announce Signing of Lucas Torreira
Just before the 2018 World Cup kicked off, news emerged that Arsenal had agreed a deal to sign Sampdoria and Uruguay star Lucas Torreira. Various media outlets reported that the Gunners have agreed to pay €30 million (£25.5m) for the player, which is €5 million (£4.4m) more than his reported release clause. The deal hasn’t been announced as according to reports the player wants everything held off until he has finished with Uruguay at the World Cup.
Now the very reliable journalist David Ornstein has confirmed Arsenal are likely to complete the signing of the 22-year-old by next week. According to Ornstein, the deal has been agreed with Sampdoria and the medical plus contract signing is dependent on whether the player chooses to fly straight to London or via Uruguay.

This is good news for Arsenal as there was a fear that the deal could be hijacked by other clubs. I personally feared Chelsea could be on his case especially if they feel Paris Saint-Germain will finally get N’Golo Kanté from them. Now that the deal is said to be done, hopefully the player will be able to play for Arsenal when they take on Manchester City on the opening day of the 2018-19 Premier League season.
According to David Ornstein, the signing of Torreira ends Arsenal’s summer transfer dealings which I sincerely hope for Arsenal fans’ sake is not true. The Gunners still need to fill 1-2 holes in their team if they want to compete for the title next season or at least make it back into the top four. A left-sided winger is still needed as well as a reliable centre-back as Shkodran Mustafi has shown he can’t be relied on.
