Not Golovin – £35.3m-rated Chelsea Target Arrives London for Transfer Talks
Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked the most to signing Jean Michaël Seri. Both clubs could certainly do with bringing in the African this summer. Chelsea on their part need someone to replace the below par Tiémoué Bakayoko in their first team and partner N’Golo Kanté (who could still leave the club for Paris Saint-Germain this summer), while Arsenal still do not have an out-and-out defensive midfielder.
Although Arsenal’s interest doesn’t seem to be that strong any more, unless they intend to sell either or both Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka. This is because Arsenal are looking likely to push through a deal that will see them sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria instead.
Although the impending signing of Torreira has still not stopped the media from linking Arsenal to the signing of other midfielders, which could be an indication that they are about to lose one of their current defensive midfielders. And if they are selling one of their stars and want to bring in a replacement, I doubt they will be signing a high-profile name such as Seri, to play backup.
Which makes the report that Jean Michaël Seri is currently in London for transfer talks much more interesting. Could it be that he has arrived in London to talk to Arsenal or Chelsea? The news of the player’s arrival in London was broke by France football journalist Nabil Djellit yesterday. Nabil Djellit Tweeted:
Info : Jean-Mika Seri est sur Londres… En instance de départ, pour rappel, il est en contact avec Arsenal, Chelsea… A suivre ! cc @PatrickJuillard

Once translated it indicates the holding midfielder is in London to hold talks. With Arsenal almost certain to sign Torreira, it is safe to rule the North London club out of the deal. That leaves Chelsea, Fulham and West Ham United as the only likely London clubs still in the race for his signature. West Ham are closing in on a deal to sign Jack Wilshere on a free transfer which will further reduce their need for another midfielder.
And if Chelsea are truly interested in signing Seri, the player is unlikely to choose the likes of West Ham and Fulham ahead of them. The player reportedly has a €40m (£35.3m) buyout clause in his contract, and with his contract said to be expiring in the next 12 months, Chelsea and the other interested clubs could potentially negotiate a lower fee.
It is an interesting situation, but if you ask me, I firmly believe Chelsea will end up signing Jean Michaël Seri this summer.
