Confirmed lineups: Liverpool vs West Ham
Liverpool and West Ham United start their 2018-19 Premier League campaigns at Anfield on Super Sunday.
Supporters of both clubs are looking forward to an exciting season after spending significant sums over the summer.
The Merseyside club are heavy favourites to start the season with three points, just as fellow top four challengers Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have already picked up over the weekend.
The two teams for today’s game are confirmed as:
Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keïta; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mané
Substitutes: Lloris Karius, Nathaniel Clyne, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge
Jürgen Klopp hands a debut to the world’s second most expensive goalkeeper, Alisson. Alisson has less than 100 senior appearances to his name but was excellent for AS Roma last season and started for Brazil at this summer’s World Cup.
With Dejan Lovren and Joël Matip both sidelined, Joe Gomez partners Virgil van Dijk at centre-back this afternoon. The youngster will be alongside teenager Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right-hand side of the back four.
Energetic Naby Keïta starts in the midfield three with Jordan Henderson only on the bench after captaining the side last season. Summer signings Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri are also on the bench.
West Ham United
Łukasz Fabiański; Ryan Fredericks, Angelo Ogbonna, Fabián Balbuena, Arthur Masuako; Declan Rice, Mark Noble; Michail Antonio, Jack Wilshere, Felipe Anderson; Marko Arnautović
Substitutes: Adrián, Pablo Zabaleta, Issa Diop, Pedro Obiang, Robert Snodgrass, Andriy Yarmolenko, Javier Hernández
Incoming manager Manuel Pellegrini made numerous signings and West Ham fans will be able to see Łukasz Fabiański, Fabián Balbuena, Ryan Fredericks, Jack Wilshere and Felipe Anderson at Anfield this afternoon as they have all been named in the starting lineup which appears to be a 4-2-3-1 formation.
West Ham go with two attack-minded full-backs against Liverpool’s formidable attack.
Centre-back Issa Diop and exciting attacker Andriy Yarmolenko are both available to the Chilean manager from the bench.
