Arsenal midfielder set to join Mourinho’s Roma
Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to complete a loan move to AS Roma for the remainder of the 2021-22 season, the BBC understand.
The 24-year-old England international is set to undergo a medical for Jose Mourinho’s side before the deal can be made official.
Maitland-Niles has made only 11 appearances for the Gunners this season, of which only two have been Premier League starts.
The five-time England international came through the youth ranks at the North London club but has previously spent loan spells at both Ipswich Town and West Bromwich Albion in the Championship. He has never been able to hold down a regular spot with the Premier League side.
Back in August, he voiced his frustration with a lack of playing time. He let it know via social media, saying:
“All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play.”
A loan move to Roma for the second half of the season would see him join up with former Arsenal teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
