Another American import could enter the European stage before long, if Zach Loyd continues to build on what proved to be a solid debut for the USA in a 1-1 draw against Chile. The F.C. Dallas full-back, 23, is athletic, combative, well drilled technically, with surprising pace and strength, and on this display could certainly be tested in the rigours of the Premier League. His first 73 minutes of international football were enough for him to pick up the Man of the Match award to neatly tie off an impressive debut.

Following the game, the USA manager, Bob Bradley, was first to lead the praise for the left-back: “…His ability to compete on plays in that part of the field, I thought, was excellent. You see it [during training], but its great when it comes out in the game. ”

The match at the Home Depot Center, California, may not have been a thriller for the spectator, but there are promising signs for the MLS considering that 7 home-based players made their international débuts, including Loyd. The left-back is certainly one to keep an eye on.
