Rest of the world News… Liverpool Suarez deal should be wrapped up in 24 hours

Since missing out on a loan deal for Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor, the chase for the Reds to secure a striker in the January transfer window continues.

So far, a hotly-tipped deal for Ajax’s Luis Suirez has been stalled but could be put through in the next 24 hours. Liverpool are hoping to finalise the deal as quick as possible, with Ajax also in a hurry to capture possible replacements before the transfer window shuts.

“We’ll have to wait for Liverpool to come back to us with something more respectful,” an Ajax spokesman said.

“If you compare the money Liverpool want to pay for him with other transfers, you can imagine that it is far too low.”

A fee of £20m is thought to be enough to seal the deal by tomorrow.
