The BIG debate: Is Darron Gibson Manchester United quality?

By on January 27, 2011 - 74 views

There has been a constant worry for Manchester United in terms of the project “Paul Scholes disaster management” – hence, what happens when Scholes retires?

United have one first choice midfielder in Darren Fletcher but they lack a regular partner for him. Options include the likes of Anderson, Michael Carrick or Gibson although papers this week have suggested that Carrick has been told he can go if he wishes in the summer.

Already 23, Gibson has started just 10 Premier League games in the last three seasons in a United shirt. He gained valuable experience at Wolves on loan and for his national side, the Republic of Ireland.

Gibson seized on injuries to United’s midfield and played a  few games but has not been able to win a place for any regular period of time when everyone has been fit.

He has brought a powerful shot to the United side but has little more to offer than that. It often appears his shooting is also inconsistent. Unless he can bring something else to his game and some general levels of consistency, surely he is out of the door?

I agree with this article. He is not up to the required standard. I’m not even sure that he will ever make the grade. Anderson appears to be the replacement at the moment but his form can go off as we have seen before. This is a position that Fergie needs to address as priority one even above VDS replacement.

Great shot, but clearly not united quality. Not creative enough going forward, not solid enough at the back… not the answer to the scholes question.

Do you mean Darren Fletcher was “shittttt” Last season as well or just been always “Shit”?

Or maybe just been poor this season?

Who would you suggest for United’s midfield.?

mainly based on this season..but he never was a top top quALITY midfielder that we expect from a utd palyer…

We need more creativity, more flair, more playmaking quality in our midfield and i would suggest Wesley Sneijder is the best available candidate that have all the qualities.

With the ball at his feet, Wesley Sneijder is an artist with the field as his canvas. His range of passing is as good as anyone’s and his vision is equal to Scholsey’s. He scores goals too as well as takes free kicks (we do not currently have one except Giggsy). He can be the perfect answer to our midfield questions…

This guy needs to grow in football, until then he deserves to be in the reserves or shown the door! He lacks creativity, not good passer of the ball and lack accuracy in shooting. Grow man

he is simply not a united quality, FULL STOP! you cant expect to play for the biggest club in the world when you cant offer anything more an average player can. and the same applies to Michel Carrick. tbh i hate him. this guy do not have no passion to play for utd, nor for football. he gives ball away and standstill and watches. i dont also rate darren fletcher too high, well not as high as manchester united standard for sure. these are doing their job, getting away with good fortune simply because they have a brilliant coaching, players and management around them. in the past we had full of stars in midfield, not by their name but by their standard. we had characters that had passion to play for utd. we had the likes of kean, cantona, beckham, scholsey (still got him), robson, ronaldo and the list continues… these current load of shitt the likes of carrick, fletcher, gibson, obertan are without creativity, FLAIR, idea, without good passes to strikers. even Nani, rooney and Giggs are better central midfielder then them.
Since Ronaldo left we do not have one specialist free kick taker. yes we do have the ever green Ryan Giggs who has the coolness and skill to do it but it is questionable how many games even the great Welshman can start at 37??? except scholsey the only other bright midfielder we have is Anderson. this guy look a awesome prospect. he has skills, pace, work ethik and power but lack direction which will come, and most importantly he has the flair and passion which the other bunch of rubbish don’t have.

SAF stop moaning about no value in the market (bullsh*t). buy some decent utd class players in the summer. we have not replaced ronaldo, we have not got a genuine replacement scholes and kean.
Maybe the good fortune is in your site this season, but perhaps that do not last long enough. Maybe the P L clubs are under-performing this season, but had they been more consistent, where do you genuinely think in the table we would be standing right now???

Is there anyone you rate at United!!!! according to you half the flaming squad should be sold!! Is this the team thats gone UNBEATEN in the league so far this season? instead of saying OMG this team doesn’t know when its beaten, you say everyone else is cr*p!! Fletcher allows nani, giggs, rooney and co to attack safe in the knowledge of a HOLDING midfielder behind them!! was Ronaldo not regarded as a one trick pony when he was starting out in the team? i bet you were calling for his head, as well as SAF back when he was having a rough time!! i for one trust in Fergie and I think he has more football knowledge than fans with no foresight!!!! i will expect to see you posting on here when they go the whole season undefeated saying how you knew they were the best youve ever seen etc etc!! get real and enjoy the ride!!

Its not only his age(23) that is against Gibson to break into or make a serious First team challenge. He will only ever be a squad player.

For an attacking midfielder he should have a serious threat of scoring.Where United are lacking which is as obvious to a “Blind Man” and his Dog.No punch in the midfield.

Sadly for Darron Gibson he contributes neither goal scoring potential(3 Goals in approx 1000 Minutes of playing time) or even that basic ability to complete his passes to a United player.

I have the soloution lets sign Xavi,Kaka,Gerrard, lol, Ribery, Inesta, Fabregas, Lampard,Sneijder, Pirlo and just for back up Essien. Sorted.

But we are not playing football manager, we are dealing with a financial situation at this great club called Manchester United. That are restructuring due to FFP rules. The Premier League is planning a radical overhaul of youth development that will see the end of reserve team football, a freeing up of the movement of young players and the setting up of an independent standards authority which will monitor and rank the academies of clubs across the country.

The Elite Player Performance Plan will be the most significant study of how to develop young footballers since Howard Wilkinson’s Charter for Quality 13 years ago.

With Uefa’s rules on Financial Fair Play coming into force in 2013 and the Premier League’s demand that each club have eight home-grown players in their squad, English clubs are investing in youth recruitment and coaching more than ever before, as they seek to create a sustainable long term model.

The EPPP will encourage clubs to develop their own players and seeks to raise the overall standard of players developed in the English system .

Exactly what you see at United an Investment in youth.

    Cheers nice communicating.

I like Wesley Sneijder but fergusion would never play him with rooney and berbs and wouldn’t really have nani like wingerson either. united are not set up for kaka like maestros, remember veron. I hate gibson. Fletcher and Carrick have some use but both their form is woeful. Anderson seems back on track. But who could you sign today? Macherano would be useful with anderson and go 442??

I like Carrick but he has been struggling to maintain his form as in he will have a great game then be non existent for weeks & weeks. I think Fletcher is just having a bad spell coz we all know that he was world class last season….Anderson is on the rise & looks sharp this season, FUCK GIBSON OFF !!!

Steven Defour, Alexis Sanchez, Lassana Diarra would sort us out in midfield aswell…….I’ve got a funny feeling if Charlie Adam doesn’t go the Scouse Bastards, Fergie will sign him…;-)

DG is definitely not MU quality. All the rest (Fletch/Carrick/Ando) are much better than him. And we have other younger guys like Cleverly. Don’t know what SAF sees in DG. However, why all the complaints about Fletcher? Didn’t he have a good season last year? Didn’t he provide the first goal against Blackpool and many others in the past?

Gidson is another neville like kind of a player. Always hyped but with little to offer. The likes of Gibson, Neville shouldnt even wear a united shirt. They are horrible. Game in mind champs league against real when carlos out played, out thought neville. What of the Everton game for this season. Please leave our club for the good of it all.

he doesnt seem to be up to our level.

for me his a lampard, a very average player with a good shot.

Of course he is not united quality. I always agree this. So sell him and buy a creative midfielder. And scholes may b retire after this season so we obviously need a attacking midfielder.

Scholes is 36, though I love him still, Fletcher is certainly our best midfielder, Anderson is playing well. I feel if we could get Anderson and Fletcher to work together, that is probably our best bet. However, it is a squad game, such is the need for players like Scholes, still amazing at 36, and unfortunately Gibson, possessing only a long shot. The question you have to ask is, who else would be prepared to play 10 games a season and not complain?.. certainly not a player with real talent.

i think gibson needs another season of loan in a premier league team which likes to attack….

maybe send him to west brom or wigan or bolton…sme team which plays attacking football…hes got glimpses of talent in his play but needs a continous run of matches
