Our resident Arsenal correspondent, and Editor of Gunnersphere, takes a look at the chances of ex-Spurs youngster Adel Taarabt turning up at the Emirates…

QPR sensation Adel Taarabt has expressed his regret over his failed spell at Spurs and believes that his career would’ve turned out differently had he signed for their fierce rivals Arsenal.

As a fan of the game, and more importantly a Gooner, I would totally agree with your judgment there Adel.

The Moroccan signed for Spurs in 2007, where in his 3 year spell at the North London club only managed to make a total of 16 appearances.

His failure to adapt and perform for Spurs prompted Harry Redknapp to send the 21-year-old out on loan to QPR last season. Whilst on loan, the midfielder racked up 44 appearances (in all competitions) and bagged 7 goals along the way.

Undeniably, his loan move provided him regular first-team action that he was not receiving at Spurs. However, his displays for QPR were not enough to convince Redknapp he had a future at White Hart Lane, and as a result, Taarabt was sold to the Championship side last summer. He signed a three-year contract for approximately £600,000 which could rise to £1 million depending on the club’s achievements this season.

As well as being made the Captain, Adel Taarabt has been in great form for QPR this season. So far, he has bagged 13 goals in 27 league appearances, which has no doubt helped the club top the Championship in recent weeks. However, Taarabt still feels that Arsene Wenger, whom he refers to as ‘a legend’, would have done a more successful job nurturing his talent than those at Spurs did. The former Lens starlet was quoted in the London Evening Standard saying:

“I would have had a better chance at Arsenal. I would progress with Arsene Wenger. He is a legend in France, one of the best managers in the world.”
