Brick wall centre-back Steve Howey famously had spells with Manchester City, Bolton and a 11 year stint with Newcastle United where he helped guide them to the 1998 FA Cup final against Arsenal.

Howey retired in 2005, and had a short spell as manager of non-league Crook Town. He then moved to Middlesbrough as a youth team coach before coming out of retirement to play for Bishop Auckland in a player-coach role. He now co-presents Total Sport on BBC Radio Newcastle.
