Llorente: Andy Carroll was sloppy seconds for Liverpool

Clean Sheets broke the news that Liverpool tried to snap up Spanish star Fernardo Llorente on deadline day, and now the man himself has confirmed that the Anfield side made an approach.

“Representatives from Liverpool arrived in Bilbao and had talks with the leadership of our club,” said the 25-year old.

Athletic Bilbao rejected a £30m offer from Kenny Dalglish for the striker, with Newcastle forward Andy Carroll later filling the void.

“But obviously the club did not want to sell me, so to talk about this any longer makes no sense,” he added.

Llorente has netted 12 times so far this season.
