Chelsea’s annual wage bill soared last season to £172.5m, which is the highest in the Premier League – nearly £40m more than Manchester City who are in second place.

In 2009, Chelsea spent £165.6m on wages, with recent figures now revealing that salaries have risen by 12.7%, a £19.5m increase.

The teams with the highest payrolls in the Premier League are Chelsea £172.5m, Manchester City £133.3m, Manchester United £131.7m and Arsenal with £110m.
